Ways To Improve Your Home Office Area

Whether you are working in a corner somewhere or have a whole room as an office you can dress it up to suit your taste. You are going to spend a fair amount of time in your home office area so you may as well make it a pleasant spot you will enjoy using.

Ideas for improving your work space
Repaint the room. Your choice of colour is a matter of personal preference. You may want to do some internet research on the influence colour has on creativity or you may just want to go for white because it reflects light.
Place your desk near the window for natural light.
Use a lamp to light up your work area. I have a lamp on the shelf above my desk and it directs light onto my keyboard.

If you like to listen to music while you work, have a music system of some sort. This may be a separate stereo system or you may listen to music on your mobile, an MP3 player or other device. I often listen to music playing on my laptop through headphones so I don't disturb anyone in the next room.

Attach some floating shelves to the walls or place a suitably sized bookcase on your desk for easy access. I have a small bookshelf, on its side, on my desk for storing books, some CDs, box containing stapler, pencil sharpener, etc. and a pencil tin containing pens, pencils, coloured markers and a scissors.

Have a live plant in your room to help purify the air. Looking at something natural can help reduce stress.

The smell of essential oils such as peppermint, lemon, lime, cinnamon or rosemary can increase your alertness. If you need something to reduce stress go for lavender, ylang ylang, rose, geranium or bergamot.

If you have a whole room for your office you may like to have a yoga mat, dumb bells, treadmill or other exercise equipment on hand to encourage yourself to do a few minutes exercise every couple of hours. Personally, I would rather go outside and do a bit of gardening or put the washing on the line to get a few minutes of exercise now and then throughout the day. I do feel better for a bit of walking and a stretch.

Wherever your office area is in your house and whatever size it is, there are things you can do to make it convenient and an area you enjoy spending time in.
