They are always looking for new writers at xoJane. They are especially interested in personal stories told from a raw, honest perspective. Their audience craves stories about personal experiences.
It helps to always be brutally honest and radically transparent. Don’t fake anything. At xoJane, women themselves are the experts — their advice comes from having lived through an experience.

xoJane is not snarky, but inclusive and uplifting, while remaining nothing but honest at all times. xoJane.com is written by a group of women (and some token males) with strong voices, identities and opinions, many in direct opposition to each other, who are living what they are writing about.
A Few More Tips
- Write like you talk! (ex/ Don’t say “tangled tresses” if what you really mean is “dirty hair.”)
- Be authentic and honest.
- Don’t tear down celebrities, or anyone else for that matter.
How To Pitch
Please send your story idea, including with a clear, informative headline (but no puns, please!) to firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to include a little bit about your personal experience as well as the impact it had on you, and how relates to the xoJane audience. The subject line of your e-mail should describe what your pitch is about. Do not subject your email “Story Pitch” or “IHTM”. Full stories are also accepted but the clearer your ideas are, the better.
As far as what they are looking for here are some great places to start:
It Happened To Me - First person stories about something unusual, interesting or downright amazing that has happened in your life. You can pitch these stories directly to email@example.com.
Unpopular Opinion - Something that clearly conveys your stance on a particularly polarizing topic — especially if it is something you really care about and can speak strongly on.
Beauty Dare - Crazy ass beauty or fashion trends you are willing to try. This works best when it's an extreme runway, editorial or pop culture trend taken to the streets. (Great if it's timely — "Hey, Beyoncè just wore _____ at the VMAs last night and everyone's buzzing. I'm going to wear the same thing to work today.") You need to get great photos of yourself trying out the trend in the grocery store or whatever.
I'll Try Anything Once - An experiential piece in which you write about the experience of trying something new and usually a little offbeat. Weird work-outs, crazy diets, having sex with your partner every day for a month .... WHATEVER!
They are always looking for these, and are far more likely to get accepted.
If you would like to send send photographs with your pitches/articles, please do. They can only help! Refer to the type of photography they use on the site.
